For Sale...Test 2008
As many of you know, a black belt test takes a large amount of time to plan, dream, design, and pull off.  Each test builds on the nature of the team and what Sensei decides must be taught, illustrated, or conquered.  This team was handicapped by having colored belts in the test.  As a matter of fact, we have never had anything other then brown and black on these types of tests. This was an experiment for Anjing Banfa.  We had the extremes as we had a white belt and a masters belt level candidate. Wow, talk about the extremes.

This test was designed with three goals in mind.  1) to allow and memorialize Kerry Sensei’s passage into master hood; 2) to allow the participating colored belts to experience something they have never been able to experience; and 3) to teach some very cool stuff (as we always do) to all the participants.

The test was the worst test as far as its planning, but the team did come together and that is what is all about.  We had many twists and turns in this test to help test the team, their thinking skills, and their martial arts talent.

The test started out with a 90 plus mile journey to the test area, where they were met by federal officers who pulled them out of their vehicles.  They were questioned about their “cover story” and to pass into the test.  They were also introduced to other test sensei’s who scared the pants of them.  Then they got shot at, and much more too.  Their area of operation (AO) was a real war zone and thus our training would allow them to go safely into the night, into these areas.  Tests are a right of passage and this team really did great as the test continued forward.
Even those who have been on black belt tests were challenged by this one.  We had one operation over the boarder in Tecate Mexico with a sever time table.  They accomplished their mission and came back across the boarder with 2 minutes to spare.

On the second day we started with our weapons training and they needed those skills for the night ops.  What we didn’t count on was the rain, hail, and snow.  We had 4 teams out in the night with a mission and had “hunter killer teams” to shoot them, if they could.  It was a real adventure for all involved.  Then everyone got drunk!

The final day was held against snow covered mountains. We had a really cool man tracking class with a real man track exercise.  Then we got to do Ninja nets, a class I have not taught since 1982.
Without exception, I feel that all who participated in the test, regardless of role, came away a much better person and learned many new skills.  Next years test will be forming 2 new Anjing Banfa masters, and move the next ones into place for 2009 tests.  I hope you all enjoy these DVDs and watch them with the eye of what you learned.
